South Tyneside Council says Brinkburn Community Association (Brinkburn CIO) on Harton Lane will close and be demolished as part of a wider redevelopment of the site. The council published the plan while ending a small number of long-running community asset arrangements that were never fully completed.

The council asks groups that use Brinkburn, Clegwell or All Saints to fill in a short form so it can understand what each group needs and help look for another venue where possible. (South Tyneside Council: Community groups; checked 6 Nov 2026)

Sports clubs based at the centre have told the Shields Gazette they are worried about where they will go. The Gazette reported the council's announcement on 4 November and a club response on 5 November.
